What is tuberose?


Originally from Mexico, tuberose is now mainly cultivated in India, where it is woven into bridal necklaces. Arriving in Europe in the 16th century, its narcotic and heady fragrance earned it a scandalous reputation to the extent that young girls were forbidden from strolling in gardens at dusk, as the power of these 'narcotic flowers' could lead them into temptation.
