Based in Brussels, René Magritte is no stranger to DAMIAAN, nor the imaginary world of surrealism that forms the inspiration of this first collection of bags.

DAMIAAN is a new Belgian brand of leather goods, created by Christina Zeller and Damian O’Sullivan in 2022. With a refined simplicity and an unbridled fantasy, their designs will surprise and seduce through an elegant eccentricity.

Driven by their imagination and their passion for leather goods, the creative duo pushes the boundaries of the possible whilst respecting the crafts rigor and maintaining the greatest degree of artistic freedom.

By infusing traditional forms with an audacious imagination, DAMIAAN presents a first collection that carries refinement and grace coupled with a singular imagination. With the trompe-l’œil effect of the Bootbag and the enchanting menace of the Snakebag, this collection is inextricably linked to the imaginary world of surrealism.

Veiled by an exceptional lightness of hand, the bags defy the traditional savoir-faire with newfound techniques and intricate constructions.

The Bootbag is made in Italy (where else would you make a bag in the shape of a boot) by bringing together two hitherto separate crafts: boot and bagmaking. Their skills combining in the making of this sophisticated assembly, where one artisan has worked hand-in-glove with the other for the bag to look its best. The Bootbag will have you dashing around impervious to all the elements, with its leather sole even resisting the occasional puddle or two. Aground or carried in the air, the Bootbag is not afraid to bare its sole.

The Snakebag is made in France and its classic half-moon design belies its clever construction. How else would you make a meandering snake hold a bag whilst holding its tongue? The near-invisible stiches demand exceptional craftsmanship, which our master artisans have perfected through trials and tribulations to maintain the allure and mystery of its meandering tail. As real as the snake may seem, ophidiophobians need not slip away, as this charming snake is going to make your day!
